New Toys

It feels like Christmas here because James got some new toys! Even though we try to rotate the toys he currently has I noticed he was loosing attention fast and needed a couple new toys in the mix. I found some really fun wooden toys through IKEA and they came today!

I was unpacking them from the box at lunch when James was in his high chair. As soon as I started to pull them out of the box he started going "Hmmm, hmmm, hmm" and reaching for the toys. So I unpacked the shape sorter, got him out of his chair, and let him have at it. For 20 minutes he was enthralled with his new toy! Here's a video of James playing with the shape sorter:

I remember playing with a bead roller coaster when I was little in the waiting room at the doctor's office. It's so fun to watch James explore and manipulate this new toy. I'm putting this upstairs in his room and the shape sorter downstairs in the living room. Here's a video of James playing with the bead roller coaster:

I'm keeping the stacking rings to use later to rotate when he is tired of the shape sorter or the bead roller coaster. As for the colored building blocks in the wagon, I took one of each shape and put it in a basket for him. As he gets older it'll be fun to use the shapes in different ways and eventually he can play with the wagon.

I've noticed that rotating toys is key. It's fun to watch him play with a toy he hasn't seen for a few weeks, especially since he is constantly growing in his fine and gross motor skills, because he sees the toy in a new light and it's different from when he played with it a few weeks ago.

  1. Lucky James! We have a bead roller coaster, a couple shape sorters, and a plethora of wooden blocks of various sizes and shapes. He can remind his cousins how fun those toys are (because as soon as James plays with them they will be the new favorites of EVERYONE).

And I need to be better about rotating toys. Maybe that will be a project for today.
